Sputter
GRADIENT's Sputter is an electroacoustic instrument that provides a tactile approach to noise-making. Built from Arkansan red cedar and a simple contact microphone, Sputter utilizes a thin layer of silicone along its surface to allow access to friction-activated groans, squeaks, and squeals. Of course, tapping or scraping the frame and sides allows access to more dry, wooden sonorities.
Built by hand from locally-sourced wood, each Sputter has a unique appearance and sound. Non-slip rubber feet on the bottom ensure snug placement in your setup. All units feature a 1/4" unbalanced piezo contact mic output for easy connection to preamps, mixers, audio interfaces, and more.
Sputter is available in both 6x6" and 10x10" variants. Each variant is ~2-1/4" thick. Note that Sputter's silicone and wooden surfaces will show wear over time—but treat it with care, and it will last.
